FREE ESTIMATES We work in the greater Pierce County area of Washington. From the south end of Seattle down to Olympia to Bremerton. When we first speak to you on the phone, we will arrange a time to meet with you at your home, or wherever the remodeling job is going to be. When we arrive, we will consult with you about what you want, and offer any suggestions that we think may be helpful. Our emphasis is on what you want, not what we want to do. It's very important to us that you get the outcome you want. We take the measurements and notes we need to do your estimate. After reviewing the notes, we will work up an estimate based on the time and materials it will take to do complete your project. After the estimate is prepared, we will call you to give you the numbers, and any alternatives. That is a “free” estimate. People sometimes mistakenly believe that they will receive a written estimate. That is not the normal procedure for our industry. We do write up an agreement when a customer wants us to do the work. Written estimates are not the same as free estimates. We may choose to do it, but it depends upon the circumstances. Just so you know why our industry doesn’t normally offer free written estimates; it’s not uncommon for folks to secretly have some kind of an insurance claim or lawsuit going on. A while back, we let one couple talk us into giving them a free written estimate. We did it because they were referred by a friend, and they assured us that we would do their project. But, when they received the insurance check, they used it to go on vacation in Reno. We found that out from the friend who had referred them. We had spent considerable time and effort on that particular estimate, not to mention that it was a long drive to their home. Curt was once involved in another situation where the contractor had given a customer a “free” written estimate. The "would be" customer only wanted the estimate in order to get a subpoena to force the contractor to go to court. The contractor ended up testifying as a witness in a lawsuit against another contractor who was his personal friend. No one likes to misled like that.
